A 26-year-old man recently became intoxicated at a party in Anne Arundel County, police allege, and then stabbed the man who tried to throw him out of the gathering.

The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. Sunday as a New Year's Eve party in Odenton was winding down. Supposedly, the victim tried to remove the alleged assailant because he was drunk and behaving in a disorderly manner and was stabbed in the leg during the attempt to evict the troublemaker. Police have not said what sort of instrument was used in the alleged stabbing.

The man who reportedly stabbed the other man has now been charged with two counts of assault, one in the first degree and the other in the second, and with reckless endangerment.

The man whom he is alleged to have stabbed was taken to a trauma center immediately after the incident. His condition is not known, but police have said his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

The man has not yet entered a plea to answer the charges against him. No matter if he pleads guilty or not guilty, he might want to retain the help of an attorney. Lawyers who are familiar with criminal law often are able to help their clients ensure that their rights are protected. No one is saying these lawyers are like wizards -- after all, they can only work with circumstances as they exist in reality -- but they can often offer valuable insight and assistance.
